Thieves Like Who?

My favorite senator, Manny Villar has filed a bill seeking stiffer penalties for theft and robbery in places of worship. Well it is a welcome bill, what I'd like to see are laws that gives stiffer penalties on thieves in church. Yes, there are wolves in priests' robes too. Another perhaps and should really be addressed is stiffer penalties for thieves of land. The latter I doubt very much if Villar would go along with.

We don't need more laws on theft and robbery. What we need are laws that address the plight of farmers and indigenous people against land grabbers and opportunistic real estate businesses. Theft of these lands have economic and national repercussions. National food security is what is at stake here. Theft of land also deprives our indigenous people to preserve their heritage and threatens their very existence.

Theft and robbery are not exclusive to common criminals. They are also committed by politicians and greedy businessmen. or politicians with business interests. I hope Sen. Villar would focus more on the issues I mentioned above. We have many laws concerning common criminality. What we need are laws against those who use their influence, bribery of public officials and intimidation for material gain.

Well Mr. senator, are you willing to pick up the challenge?

Dimwit

Rallyists are getting to be more innovative in showing their disgust with those who voted for HR 1109. They now bring the forum to the very doorstep of these congressmen. The dimwit who wants to protect these hoodlums is none other than Dato Arroyo. He's proposing that these indignation rallies be banned. Under Gloria's administration, even rallies in freedom parks are most often than not, not allowed. With all the laws governing rallies in place, Dato wants to add another one. With important bills waiting on the floor of the lower house, this dimwit would rather prioritize something that only hooligans like him would benefit from.

I don't know how his constituents voted this dimwit into office. I tend to believe that he got elected through goons, guns and gold. So far, the Arroyos have nothing to show for during their tenure in the house. All I've seen them accomplish is to corner the power sector and of course the Con-Ass. Maybe Dato thinks that just because he is a lawmaker, he can formulate just about any law he wants. Well, think again Mr. Dimwit, even Matt Defensor thinks your proposal is just too much.

So if were to give Dato an advice, I'd tell him to just stick to his seat and keep his mouth shut. The more he opens it, the more he exposes his stupidity. Public interest is still higher than a public servant's right to privacy. I suppose he doesn't know that because he doesn't serve the public, he serves the interest of his dynasty.

An Ax To Grind

I was shocked to hear of the tragedy that happened to the the family of ABS-CBN newscaster, Ted Failon. I've been an avid listener of his program for quite sometime now. With the tragedy, the Philippine National Police now has something to go after Mr. Failon. I heard his explosive and passionate commentaries against the police following the spate of rub outs elements of the PNP had been involved in.

With the way this case is going, it is so obvious that the PNP is doing everthing to get back at Ted. I hope that the PNP could also employ the same tenacity and passion they are displaying now with the cases their own personnel are involved in.

I also saw clips of how elements of the PNP totally disregarded the suspects rights when "inviting" them to shed light on the case. I am not siding with anyone here, but I don't trust the PNP. They are to me the epitome of what "legal bandits" are. It is also obvious that they are going to pin this on Mr. Failon no matter what. The SOCO should watch the Discovery Channel so they would learn a thing or two about forensics. Even the way the PNP top brass have been throwing around statements indicates that they are bent on nailing Ted.

The PNP now has Ted by the balls. I'm sure they'll exert pressure on the witnesses(?) to get back at Ted. Maybe this will somehow stop Mr. Failon's tirades. I'm sure the truth will come out in the end. Legal harassment is always a better option than an outright threat.

*BTW, I'm still alive and kicking although hampered by my waning sight, I'm still here still here, full of passion and patriotism. Thanks to all who have expressed their concern.
