Sumilao Update: Metro Manila Leg - Day 8

A recovering Gari Lazaro this morning updated me on the Sumilao farmers' activities for the week and their condition. They are currently camped at the Dept. of Agrarian Reform. Their meals are being provided by seminarians and daily masses are celebrated by concerned clergy.

The Inquirer is intently monitoring their case with columnist Patricia Evangelista sharing her view and PDI's editorial today tackles the issue. The farmers will march to the Commission on Human Rights to submit the Sumilao Human Rights Declaration. They will also walk to the HLURB office for land use classification. Noel Cabangon will perform in their camp after the walk.

Tomorrow, former DAR officials, former DAR secretaries, Abad, Garilao, Morales and usecs, Bulatao, Olano, and Soliman, will issue a joint statement to pressure DAR to settle the case in favor of the Sumilao farmers. It's Lawyers Day on Wednesday and some 50 lawyers will go to their camp to issue a stand.
