Sumilao Update: Metro Manila Leg - Day 10

Despite efforts by DAR to prevent former officials to appear in a press conference today, former secretaries Abad, Garilao and Ponce, with Usecs. Hector Soliman, Gerry Bulatao and Asec. Clifford Berkley showed up. They called on DAR to uphold the letter and spirit of the rules on conversion and in the process strengthen the institution and increase its legitimacy.

They also urged all parties to look for various means of exploring alternative modes of resolving the conflict. They also said that an immediate cease and desist order would provide all parties the proper environment to seek for constructive solutions to this problem.

Sumilao Baula arrived at the DAR with 28 Sumilao residents in a bid to divide the Sumilao community. It however failed as marchers welcomed their neighbors with warm hugs. Korina Sanchez will discuss the issue tonight on her show. The Sumilao farmers are also inviting bloggers to meet with them to discuss their plight. I am inviting all interested bloggers to leave me a note so that I may coordinate a blogger's meeting with them.

The call for a boycott is still on. A little dip in Monterey/Purefoods products may get SMFI's attention.

"Bloggers Call for Boycotting of Monterey/Purefoods Products in support of Sumilao farmers. This Christmas season, December 15, 2007 to January 2, 2008. Bring down the sales of San Miguel Food, Inc. to show public support to the farmers of Bukidnon who were denied of their 144 hectares of land. Please pass to all bloggers."
